Tungsteel Day 7

Date: 10.16.2018

Goals

  • Finish drivetrain

  • Rebuild base

  • Attach and gear wheels

  • Add drive-motors

  • Brainstorm outreach

  • Finalize parts-to-buy list

What Happened:

  • Rebuilt the robots base

  • Attached Wheels (all 6)

  • Geared wheels so we only need two motors to drive the robot

What Didn’t Happen:

  • Outreach brainstorming

  • Adding the drive motors

  • Finalize parts-to-buy list

Summary:

Although not all goals were accomplished today, it was quite successful over all. We realized that the base of the robot had been accidentally changed in a way that needed to be fixed, so that is what we started with. After that, we continued on to adding the wheels with 3 on each side and in a tank drive configuration. We attempted to gear them together so that we would only need 2 motors for the drivetrain, but encountered some issues while building. Mainly, there is too much friction between all of the wheels. We hope to troubleshoot this in the next meeting so that we can use the other motors for the mechanisms instead of the drivetrain.

All of the previous work took more time than expected, making it so that we could not complete some of the things we desired, such as brainstorming for outreach ideas. We hope to get to these unfinished tasks in our next meeting.

Next Time:

  • Add drive motors

  • Brainstorm outreach

  • Begin work on cube grabbing mechanism
